Some time yesterday you were brought into the Zone. You arrived in a small disused warehouse on the northern fringes of Manchester at the appointed time with your bags. The bags were immediately confiscated and you were thoroughly searched, and put into a group of 25 individuals. Your bags were returned, a little lighter than they were, and your group of 25 was packed into the back of a van.
Some hours later the van doors opened and you were let out onto a dirt track. Behind you stood a 15 foot high concrete wall, topped with barbed wire. There didn't seem to be any kind of gate or door. A tall man wearing a lanyard told you to follow him and you shouldered your bags and set off. Several hours later you arrived at the Gatehouse.
The Gatehouse was something of a disappontment frankly. A dilapidated old camping barn with a few small bunk rooms and a tiny kitchen, it didn't seem big enough to hold all of you, then it became clear that was never the plan. You could sleep here if you could pay to. Otherwise you'd be sleeping rough. There was food available but again only the first meal was free. Those who worked, ate. You settled in to wait for the orientation that might get you some of that work.
